Hey Cadets, we have car washes every Sat. starting on Sat. June 21 through the last week-ends in July.  If we have enough interest we might even be able to set up 2 locations on the same day.  This is a great opportunity for you to earn some money for your individual student accounts, to help you raise money to pay your band fees.

     We do need at least 2 or 3 parents to volunteer to help oversee these car washes. Your involvement will also go towards your child's I.S.A.  Please e-mail us if you are interested in overseeing the car washes.

     We will have our first car wash at the Wachovia Bank (next to Sonic on Germantown Parkway) We are set up for the car washes both June 21 and June 28 at this location.

     In July they will be at the 1rst Tennessee Bank at the corner of Germantown Parkway and Trinity.  (July 5, July 5, July 19 and July 26.) We really need to know if people want to sign up for the Sat. after and between band camp.

     If you are a Cadet wanting to help with these car washes for this Saturday please e-mail us right away.  For the other car washes we will have a sign up at the Booster meeting on June 19. Please make sure you come to the meeting to find out about many of the other opportunities we will be having.

===========================================================
Hello everyone,

Things are really starting to take shape for the Cadets of Cordova!!  We are currently going through and verifying who will be in band in the fall.  So far we have nearly 100 confirmed!  You should all be very excited about things to come. We have already received some band fees in the CHS office which is a plus.  The sooner we get everyone's first payment, the sooner we will have a show.

You may now download the Band Handbook for '08-'09 from the website.  Some things may look familiar, but there is a lot of new material there.  I would suggest that every student and all parents take time to read through it.  Hopefully you will find all of the answers that you have been waiting to ask. There is a contractual agreement on the last page that must be signed for the student to participate in marching band.  Please have all forms and the contract ready to turn in the first day of band camp.  Guard and percussion should have the contract and information forms ready at the June camp and the rest ready for the July Band Camp.  Once the contract is signed, the students will be held to the handbook.

Now, this being said, there is nothing to be concerned about.  These policies and procedures are established to ensure that things run smoothly and that the Cadets of Cordova are always as prepared as we can be.

Please continue to check the homepage everyday for new announcements www.cadetsofcordova.org.  Also, check out my blog "Mr. C's Blog" which you can access from the homepage as well.  As I travel with the Phantom Regiment this summer I will periodically post.  Also, I should tell everyone that I do not have computer access 24-7 while on tour. Generally, if you send me an e-mail and don't receive a reply within 24 hours, it means I don't have access to a computer.  If you can't get a hold of me, contact Lorie Howard at loriehoward@yahoo.com or Bob Stoecker at stoeckerr@bellsouth.net.  If they cannot answer your questions, they will direct you to my cell phone which I have on 24-7 (for the most part).  If you call and can't get me, it means I am in an area of the country with bad service.  Leave a message and I will get back to you.

I hope you will find all of this information helpful!!

Taylor Criswell
Director of Bands

==========================================================

Hello!  I hope all of you are enjoying your time off for summer so far.  I have a few things I need to draw to your attention.

1.  Band fees this year equal a total of $300.  There will be three (3) payments.  June 1st- $100 July 1st-$100 and August 1st-$100.  Payments must be received in the Cordova High School office in (1) cash, (2) cashier's check, or (3) money order. The first payment must be received before June 10th to be in the half-time show.  Band fees cover the cost of writing the show, paying band staff, travel costs for contest, contest entry fees, equipment etc.  Colorguard- Your uniform will cost $141.  You may buy this out of pocket or fundraise the entire amount.

2.  Guard and percussion camp will be June 16-20 at CHS.  Times for the camp 1pm-8pm.  Dinner 4-5pm  This camp is mandatory for those members in these sections.  Drum majors will be in attendance as well.

3.  Full Band Camp- July 14-25 at CHS.  We will begin at 8am everyday and end at 8pm every night. Please make plans now to be there the entire time.  Almost 7 weeks of work will take place during this week.  July 21-22 we will begin at 5pm and go until 8pm.  July 19-20 we will not rehearse (weekend). All other days- 8am-12pm, 12-1 lunch, 1-4:30 rehearse, 4:30-5:30 dinner, 5:30-8 rehearse.  Again, camp is mandatory to be in band in the fall.

I will send a list of supplies that you will need to have with you at camp.

4.  Post Band Camp- August 4th 5pm-8pm at CHS.  Thursday August 6th we plan to attend the live broadcast of the Drum Corps International Quarter Finals at Paradiso Theater in Memphis. Attendance to the theater is recommended, but not mandatory. More information will be available during band camp.

5.  If you are interested in playing a different instrument for marching band, please let me know very soon.  We will not march bass clarinets.   Those members may wish to choose mellophone, baritone, pit, or soprano clarinet. Bari sax players will need to choose alto sax, mellophone, pit, or baritone.  These are suggested instruments to choose from, you may certainly choose something else.

5.  Please check for announcements on our web page- www.cadetsofcordova.org often.  Please always remember to check there first before you ask about something.

I hope you are all very excited about the band this year at Cordova High School.  We have an amazing show in the progress of being written by our highly talented staff.  Don't miss out on an exciting year with the Cadets of Cordova.

Thank you,
Taylor Criswell

Cordova High School

We are about to start writting drill for the show! I have a roster for the band, but ofcourse I won't know exactly what we have until school starts probably. Anyhow, please send me an e-mail to let me know that you will or will not be in the band. Also, we will write less spots in the drill than we have people. So, if you don't pay your dues you won't be written in the show. It's gonna be cool though. Looks like we're gonna have 72-80 horns on the field, 15 colorguard, and 10 in the drumline. Not bad. Also, I have talked to a few of you woodwind player about switching to mello, especially you two bass clarinet players. Please let me know about that soon. I would really like to march at least 5 mellos. Also, some of the trombone players will need to play baritone to balance the drill. Let me know who is interested. Thanks
